Summer in
Slovenia
The Soca Valley comes alive in the summer. Feel refreshed, feel revitalised. This area has a special atmosphere full of adventure, warmth, nature, beauty and awe-inspiring mountains. The River Soca has carved its way not just through the valley but into many publications and films because of its pure clarity. Watched ‘Prince Caspian’ from the Chronicles of Narnia to get an insight, though you wont find a lion on the riverside on your visit we promise.
The hiking trails are plentiful and from our door step. Mountain biking or road biking have miles of trails, with local guiding available and highly recommended.
There are so many ways to enjoy the river, from whitewater rafting, kayaking, SUP-ing, canyoning where you are guaranteed to get wet, to ziplining (past the chalet no less!) which is just spectacular, or fly fishing. You can always take it easy, many refer to parts of the riverside as ‘The Beach’ dip a toe in or go for a dip on a stunning summers day – there’s literally nothing better
White water rafting
This has to be the ultimate introduction to white water adventure. The Soca River is your spectacular host. The river is crystal clear, the rapids are plenty. You’ll have the chance to jump in and swim, as well as see a different angle of this beautiful valley. No previous experience required, all equipment is rented as part of the cost.

Kayaking
Kayaking is extremely popular on the Soca River. The river grade increases as the river meanders down through the valley, making it the perfect place to learn and master new skills. Kayaking on the Soca River is second to none, the clear waters and spectacular views make it a true contender for the bucket list. We would recommend doing a minimum of a 2 day course to really get into the swing of it.

Canyoning
Canyoning is an action-packed, fun sport that anyone can enjoy – no experience needed. The tour uses nature’s terrain to slide, jump and splash your way through river channels, streams and pools of crystal clear water. Set under Mount Stol, the scenery is beautiful – definitely a top recommendation from us.
Soca Rafting only use local guides, so it’s a great time to pick their brains about local flora and fauna too.

Mountain biking
Mountain biking in Slovenia is becoming more and more accessible. Trail riding, x-country, all mountain enduro are all very popular. We recommend taking a guided tour as some of the best routes aren’t necessarily marked as clearly as they could be, but are still very much worth seeking out! DK Sports are locals with real adventure at heart, so a great to take you out to explore the area.

Hiking
The Soca Valley is covered in routes, from easy to hard, including via ferrata options for the more adventurous. The cable car for Kanin Ski Resort also remains open through the summer months, so you get the chance to start your hike way up above the tree line on Mount Kanin. The Lepena Valley is another firm favourite where you climb to the glacial lake of Krn or hike Mangart – another locals’ choice! There is an excellent selection of local route maps in the Bovec Tourist Office. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable too.

Zipline
One of the most spectacular ways to see the valley. The largest of the zipline parks is run by Soca Rafting and is over the Ucje River, so you will finish right on our door step in Zaga. Again, it’s a good contender for ‘Bucket List’ material. Both the Ucje River and the surrounding mountains of Stol and Kanin look unbelievable as you are elevated to such heights. The guides are happy to accompany children, and training is given, so it is surprisingly family friendly – or go with a group of friends, it won’t disappoint!

Wild swimming
The wild swimming in the Soca Valley is plentiful and stunning. OK, so the Soca itself is pretty nippy, but isn’t that what Wim Hof wants us to seek anyway? The super clear water, the limestone rock, the lapping waves, the deep natural pools, its hard to describe just how beautiful it is. There are local swim spots everywhere, including below the house under the bridge. There is a slightly warmer option, the Nadiza River just next to Kobarid. It’s a tributary of the Soca River, slightly slower and not as deep so it takes on heat from the sun better.

Marble trout fly fishing
The Marble Trout can only be found in the Soca River and its tributaries, so if you enjoy fly fishing or would like to give it a try, now’s the time. We highly recommend taking a guide as they can take you straight to the best spots and advise which flies to use. We are spoilt to have Soca Trout close by, they can arrange full rental and guiding.

Golf
Although golf isn’t always thought of as a recreational sport in the mountains, we are so lucky to have this stunning facility that is! Golf lessons are available, or for something a little different you’ll also find ‘tennigolf’ and ‘footgolf’ – I’m sure you can guess what that might involve.
