Chatel is a superb ski resort. Although it’s linked to the largest ski resort in Europe, it retains all its character with slope side cafes and bars and is also easy to navigate. This is perfect for smaller family members finding their feet and growing in confidence, let them have an adventure – safely. The lifts and runs go way beyond your line of sight. The runs feel endless, challenging for any level should you want that. The local ski school is great, where multiple languages are spoken (including English).
You can buy a lift pass for the entire Portes Du Soleil region, or for the Chatel area alone, making the passes more or less expensive depending on where you want to go.
Skiing & snowboarding
With over 300 slopes, 197 lifts and 12 linked resorts all on one pass, Châtel is hard to beat for skiing and snowboarding at any level. On the French-Swiss border, Châtel is in the Portes Du Soleil region of the French Alps. The freeride skiing, board parks, and endless runs make this area a joy to visit for beginners or advanced, families and friends. Free bus shuttles run from outside Chalet Letach, making it easy to get to and from the lifts.

Cross country skiing
The cross country skiing in the Abondance Valley is easy to access and a really fun alternative to regular skiing or boarding. There are 23km of maintained tracks with varying degrees of difficulty for you to work through. There is a café and toilets at the centre, but you can’t hire equipment from here, so make sure you pick gear up in town before you get there. Highly recommended.

Wellness, swimming & fitness
We are exceptionally lucky to be so close to such a wonderful spa facility. The indoor to outdoor pool, Oceana relaxing heated pool, the outdoor saunas and sensory showers plus much much more, are all perfect after a day in the mountains. Along with the gym, they also offer a selection of treatments which are too relaxing to pass up. The website isn’t the easiest to use, but don’t let that put you off, it is well worth a visit. Make sure you book treatments in advance.
