Road Riders

For road riders, Chatel and Portes du Soleil offer some of the most challenging and scenic routes in the world. The region is home to several iconic climbs, including the Col de Joux Plane, the Col de la Ramaz, and the Col de la Colombiere. These climbs have been featured in several Tour de France stages and are a must-do for any cycling enthusiast.

Family Trails

If you are looking for a family-friendly cycling adventure, Chatel and Portes du Soleil have plenty of options. The region has several designated family trails that are suitable for all ages and skill levels. These trails are well-marked, and most are traffic-free, making them ideal for families with young children. One of the most popular family trails in the region is the Abondance Valley Trail, a 22-kilometer loop that takes riders through some of the most picturesque villages in the area.

Enduro

For the more adventurous cyclist, Chatel and Portes du Soleil offer some of the best enduro trails in Europe. The region’s rugged terrain provides plenty of opportunities for technical riding, and the well-maintained trails offer a mix of fast descents, challenging climbs, and technical features. Some of the most popular enduro trails in the area include the Chatel Bike Park, the Morzine-Les Gets Bike Park, and the Super Morzine Bike Park.

The Châtel Bike Park will be open :

  • from 9 to 18 June: Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • from 23 june to 3 September: every day (late opening on Wednesday from 14th July to 25th August)
  • from 9 to 17 September : Saturday and Sunday

  • Protective Gear: Consider knee and elbow pads, as well as a back protector, to safeguard against potential falls.
  • Bike: Opt for a full-suspension mountain bike with suitable tires for the terrain.
  • Tools and Spares: Carry a multi-tool, spare inner tubes, and a pump to address any mechanical issues on the go.
  • Appropriate Clothing: Wear moisture-wicking clothing and consider a waterproof layer to adapt to changing weather conditions.
  • Hydration and Nutrition: Bring a hydration pack or water bottle and carry energy snacks to keep yourself fueled during long rides.

Green: ideal for beginners / Blue: a bit more of a challenge / Red: are for those not lacking in skill! / Black: for experienced riders only.

If you are from the UK ask for the brakes to be switched to make sure they are the same as your usual bike. The standard setup in Europe is front brake on the left and rear brake on the right.
